On August 9, 2026, our colleague, mentor, and dear friend Susanna “Susie” Schevill passed away at her family home in Berkeley at the age of 77, following a five-year battle with progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP).
Susie was a third-generation Berkeley resident whose roots in the East Bay ran deep. Born to Professor James Schevill and Helen Shaner, she grew up attending local public schools, graduated from Berkeley High School, and attended UC Berkeley before earning her degree. Her connection to this community was both generational and deeply personal.
Beginning her real estate career in 1988, Susie eventually joined The Grubb Company, where she built a distinguished practice grounded in integrity, thorough market knowledge, and client advocacy. Over more than three decades, she stewarded hundreds of local families through complex transitions. Her deep understanding of East Bay neighborhoods, school districts, local zoning, and architectural history made her an invaluable guide for both buyers and sellers.
Susie’s dedication to the region extended well beyond her professional work. A firm believer in public education, she co-founded the Berkeley High School Development Group, served on the board of the Berkeley Hills Nursery School, and actively supported local families through community initiatives. In 1985, she also co-authored Helping Your Child Sleep Through the Night, a practical resource reflected in the same thoughtful, problem-solving approach she brought to her real estate practice.
Within our offices at The Grubb Company, Susie set a quiet standard for professionalism and generosity. She routinely mentored newer agents—inviting them into her open houses, sharing her process, and encouraging their professional growth. Her colleagues remember her as a class act: articulate, gracious, and thoroughly committed to her clients and community.
Susie is survived by her husband, Robert; her children, Nick, Jim, and Vanessa; her daughters-in-law, Christine and Nancy; seven grandchildren; and her sister, Debby.
