About Me

Joann’s clients include first time home buyers of all ages as well as seniors who are selling their family homes and downsizing to condominiums or senior communities. She works with Berkeley families who are looking for local housing for their parents and seniors who are trying to make the best investment choices for their long-term needs. Many of her clients are interested in creative housing options including aging-in-place, shared and multi-generational housing and accessory dwelling units. She is knowledgeable about local senior housing resources and has relationships with senior social service providers as well as lenders, reverse mortgage specialists, senior move managers, contractors and others. She has served on the Berkeley ADU Task Force steering committee since its inception in 2017.

Joann’s unique combination of specialized realty skills and experience with the health and financial needs of older adults enable her to assist with practical, comprehensive planning. She is the East Bay real estate agent with the most knowledge of and the most experience in working directly with seniors and their families. She feels that her experience in working with seniors makes her a better realtor for all her clients. In 2010, she received the Berkeley Cares Award from the Berkeley Association of Realtors and in 2017, was chosen as the Realtor of the Year by the Oakland Berkeley Association of Realtors.

Joann and her family and have lived in Berkeley since 1976. Her children grew up in the Bay Area and Joann has been involved in the public schools, youth sports and other community activities. Joann has also been actively involved in services for older adults for over 20 years, including five years as Clinic Director at Over Sixty Health Center in Berkeley.

For the last four years she has served as a Director of the East Bay Foundation for Aging, a grant-making organization that funds services for low-income seniors in Oakland. Her proudest accomplishment was working with a group of dedicated community members to establish Ashby Village, a program in Berkeley which enables seniors to stay in their own homes as they get older.

Testimonials

"When I made the decision to move from Oakland to Albany, I wasn't sure whether to rent out the house I was living in or to sell it. There were a lot of factors and feelings to work through. Fortunately, Joann Sullivan was by my side every step of the way. Joann guided me, supported me to think through the issues, took me to see many possible houses, so I could compare, and was always there to answer my zillions of questions. She was always patient, never pressured me and gave me a wealth of information to help me make my informed decision. When I finally decided to sell my home in Oakland, Joann guided me through the myriad of details and process. I knew I could rely on her thoughtful expertise and together we made the sale of my house a reality. I highly recommend Joann. She is the best."

"Joann helped sell the home my mother had occupied for over 25 years. She established a relationship of trust and respect so it was clear we would work with Joann when it was time to sell. She is personable and down to earth, has a great stable of reliable professionals she draws on, and guided me through the process with unfailing kindness and professionalism. She's flexible, detail oriented, and worked with me to balance the business of getting top dollar with a sensitivity to honoring my mother."

“Joann has become our Family Realtor. She has helped 5 of us buy and sell homes in the past few years, as well as extending many extra personal services (help with renting my aunt's house, arranging for various contractors as and when necessary). She has been in the business in the East Bay for a long time and really knows her stuff. She is very smart and anticipates all sorts of things that many realtors won't address if they're just trying to get the deal through. I would recommend Joann without reservation, as would my siblings and cousins!”
